Therapy for adults
Evidence-based therapy for high-achieving adults
Do you replay conversations on the drive home, rewrite the same email 6 times, or lie awake solving problems that have not happened yet? Many high-achieving adults overthink. The same careful mind that built their careers keeps them from resting, deciding, and enjoying what they have worked for.
Many of the adults I work with are attorneys, physicians, and other professionals who look composed on the outside while managing a busy mind on the inside. Alongside overthinking, perfectionism, anxiety, panic, and major life transitions can quietly take a toll, even when everything appears to be going well.
Some of my clients have tried therapy before without much traction. Others are looking for their first accurate picture of what is actually going on. Either way, we start by understanding what drives your struggles, and then we build a plan around your goals.
Does this sound familiar?
What I often help adults with
Perfectionism that no longer serves you
High standards may have built your career, but now a small mistake can feel catastrophic, the work never feels finished, and rest feels like something you have not yet earned.
Anxiety and panic
Racing thoughts before a trial, a hospital shift, or a high-stakes meeting, worry that circles rather than resolves, or panic attacks that seem to arrive out of nowhere.
Life transitions and the empty nest
Children leaving home, a career change, or shifting roles in a marriage or family can bring unexpected grief, restlessness, and questions about identity and what comes next.
Stress, burnout, and low mood
When a demanding career leaves little room for rest, connection, or joy, stress can slowly turn into exhaustion, irritability, or a persistent sense that something is missing.
I also work with adults managing depression, OCD, tics, and body-focused repetitive behaviors such as hair pulling and skin picking.
How I work
Rather than starting from a generic label, I help each person develop a clear, individualized understanding of what is driving their symptoms. From there, treatment follows your goals, not a fixed protocol.
I draw on several scientifically supported approaches, and the work tends to be practical, structured, and focused on skills you can use right away, which often suits people who value efficiency and measurable progress.
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) ACT helps you step back from anxious thoughts instead of arguing with them, so you can act on what matters even when worry shows up.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), including exposure CBT helps you spot the thought loops that drive worry and test them against what happens in real life.
- Exposure and response prevention (ERP) ERP reduces avoidance and compulsions by approaching what you fear in gradual, planned steps.
- Skills from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) DBT skills help you get through intense moments without making them worse.
- Behavioral activation Behavioral activation rebuilds energy and momentum by reengaging with what matters, rather than waiting to feel like it first.
- Mindfulness-based techniques Mindfulness practices build awareness of thoughts and feelings in the present moment, which loosens the pull of rumination.
My approach blends the science and the art of therapy, grounded in nearly 20 years of clinical experience and a strong academic research background. I bring the latest scientific literature into the room while respecting that you are the expert on your own life.
College students and young adults
Similar pressures, earlier in the journey
College students often face the same struggles in a different setting, including perfectionism, test and performance anxiety, panic, and the challenge of building an independent life away from home.
Because I offer telehealth across California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Texas, many students can continue working with me while away at school, with daytime appointments that can fit between classes.
